Advances in processing technologies, automation, and monitoring systems, including digital and AI-based solutions for efficiency, consistency, safety, and traceability, as well as enhanced transparency in seafood production.
3. Side stream utilisation
Innovative approaches to converting side streams into value-added products through novel processing and resource-efficient solutions.
4. Sustainability and resource efficiency
Strategies to enhance environmental performance through improved resource utilisation, circular approaches, reduced energy and material use, and the impacts of climate change on marine resources and food security.
5. Nutrition and consumer insights
Seafood nutrition, consumer behaviour, and product development to support health, acceptance, and market uptake.
6. Underutilised species
Opportunities and challenges in increasing the utilisation and value of underexploited or low-value aquatic species.
7. Quality and safety of aquatic products
Approaches for assessing seafood quality, safety, and authenticity, from conventional to advanced analytical and data-driven methods, including emerging risks linked to environmental changes and contaminants such as metals, microplastics, pesticides, and antibiotics.
Conference Gala Dinner
On Wednesday evening, WEFTA participants are invited to the official WEFTA 2026 Gala Dinner, held at Fosshotel Reykjavík. The evening will include the traditional WEFTA award ceremony, conference dinner, and opportunities for networking and celebration with colleagues and friends from across the seafood research and industry community. Participants will enjoy a three-course dinner, followed by music and dancing in a festive atmosphere.
The Gala Dinner provides an excellent opportunity to continue scientific discussions, strengthen professional connections, and celebrate the WEFTA community in the heart of Reykjavík.
